Saint Columbkille Partnership School is dedicated to the care of the whole child-emotionally, spiritually, socially and physically. To that end, we have school nurses on site who are trained to evaluate and treat students when the need arises.

Student Illness or Injury

Illness Policy

1. Fever: Any oral temperature of 100.4° Fahrenheit or axillary temperature of 99.4 or higher constitutes a fever. Your child should be fever free, without medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. Please do not treat a fever with medication and send your child to school.
2. Vomiting and/or diarrhea: Your child should stay home from school for 24 hours from the LAST episode of diarrhea and/or vomiting.
3. Persistent coughing that can be disruptive to class.
4. Unexplained rashes, sores, inflamed eyes or other signs of contagious illnesses.
5. Strep throat: Positive strep throats must be on antibiotics for a full 24 hours before returning to school.

Treatment of Illnesses/Injuries

If your child is injured/ill at school:

  • First aid will be administered.
  • The parent/guardian shall be notified.
  • The guardian will be requested to pick the student up at school as necessary.
 

Students cannot remain in the health office for the entirety of the day. Please also remember to alert the school nurses if your child is diagnosed with any communicable diseases, such as conjunctivitis, head lice, ringworm, strep throat, etc. When it is necessary to excuse your child from Physical Education, written documentation is required from your child’s health care provider. Written documentation is also required to resume participation in Physical Education.

Health Data Requirements For All Students

Saint Columbkille Partnership School, in accordance with the regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, requires the following health information before a student enters school.

Required Immunizations

Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulation 105 CMR 220 requires students to be immunized before starting school. An immunization certificate/record that includes the month, day and year the immunizations were administered needs to be submitted to and reviewed by the school nurse before the student begins school. If there are medical reasons why your child has not been immunized, a certificate must be obtained from your physician and forwarded to the school nurse. Physical Examination

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulation 105.CMR 200 requires a physical examination for all new students. Physical exams are also required in pre-school, kindergarten, grades 4 and 7.
