Loyola Specials

All Loyola students take PE, Art, and Music weekly. Spanish is taken three times a week.

Advisory
Once a week, students are broken into smaller groups with their grade level peers to work on SEL (social and emotional learning) skills.

Study Skills
Study skills time is used to help students work on the skills of organization, note-taking and time management. Teachers guide students in effectively organizing their school supplies and assignments in a way that contributes to their academic growth. Time management strategies for homework and studying are discussed. This time is also used for 8th graders to work on their high school admissions essays. Loyola students have study skills class once a week.

WIN Block
The WIN block stands for "What I Need" and is a class that occurs a few times a month to give students a chance to catch up on missing work.

Electives
Loyola Academy prides itself on offering students the opportunities to try new things, explore interests, and discover new talents and abilities. We help our students to develop the skills, knowledge and expertise to succeed in work and life in the 21st century. Once a week, students take an elective class, in addition to their typical specials classes of PE, Art, Music, and Spanish.

Students are able to spend more time in a subject they already enjoy, or try new activities. Classes offered vary by trimester, depending on student interest and teacher availability. Past classes offered have included Choir, Art, PE, Wellness, Yearbook, Math, Robotics, STEM, and Graphic Design.

Loyola Class Trips

Grade 6: Nature’s Classroom is a residential environmental education program, at 13 sites in New York and New England. After spending a week at Nature’s Classroom, living and learning together, students develop a sense of community, a confidence in themselves and an appreciation for others that carries over to the school community.

Grades 7 & 8: Students in grades 7 & 8 travel (in alternating years) travel to Washington, DC and New York City. A visit to Washington, DC gives students the opportunity to explore the nation’s capital with their classmates and teachers. Our New York trip allows students to explore the history and culture of one of our most vibrant East Coast cities.
