Building a Culture of Generosity at STCPS

At Saint Columbkille Partnership School, we are committed to fostering not only academic excellence but also the values that define a Catholic education: faith, service, and leadership. One way we bring these values to life is through our monthly Spirit Days. These days give students the opportunity to come to school out of uniform by contributing at least one dollar, with all proceeds directed toward charitable organizations that make a difference in our community and beyond.

In September, our Spirit Day supported Catholic Charities of Boston, and together our students, families, faculty, and staff raised an impressive $638.50. This generosity reflects the strength of our community and the spirit of giving that we work to cultivate in our students.

Catholic Charities provides essential services to individuals and families in need throughout the Greater Boston area, from food assistance and housing support to educational programs and refugee resettlement. By contributing to this mission, our students are learning that their small actions can have a big impact.

In October, the school supported Brighton Marine, a local organization that provides “Healthcare, Housing, and Hope to Veterans and their families.” This Spirit Day takes place a few weeks before our Veterans Day Ceremony at St. Columbkille Parish. The school raised $615.50, and eighth grade students presented a check to representatives from Brighton Marine during the ceremony on November 7.

Throughout the month of November, students were invited to bring in contributions for our annual Thanksgiving food drive. Middle school students take the lead on this initiative, spreading awareness about food insecurity through a school-wide assembly. All donations will be directed to the Allston-Brighton Food Pantry, directly supporting those in our community.

Each month, our Spirit Days give students a tangible way to live out the call to be “people for and with others.” Bringing in a dollar may seem simple, but it creates an important culture of generosity. As students see their collective contributions add up, they understand how generosity builds community and extends hope to those who need it most.

We are proud of our students for embracing this tradition and grateful to our families for their continued support. Spirit Days are one of the many ways we nurture the next generation of leaders and develop young people who carry with them a strong sense of faith, compassion, and responsibility to others.
