Faith, Friendship, and Buddies at STCPS

One of the most beloved traditions at Saint Columbkille Partnership School is the Buddy Program. Students from different grade levels are paired together for the school year to build friendships and support one another. Buddies spend time reading together, sit together at school Masses, and connect through various activities throughout the year.

The program has a meaningful impact on students of all ages. First grade teacher Ms. Moracz shared, “First graders love their buddies. Their buddies are great role models for the first graders! The buddy program helps students learn and grow with students of all ages.”

Earlier this year, second and eighth grade students met their buddies in a fun and memorable way. Teachers organized a creative “buddy reveal” to start the year. Each student opened a card featuring a character such as Buzz Lightyear or Woody and then searched for the classmate holding the corresponding character. Once paired, buddies spread out across the field and participated in an interview activity to get to know one another.

Throughout the year, buddy pairs will continue to sit together at school Masses and assemblies, share activities, and spend time together both in and out of the classroom. The connection between second and eighth grade is especially meaningful. As second graders prepare for their First Communion in the spring, eighth graders prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. Sharing this important stage in their faith journey makes their bond even more special.

Older students value the opportunity to lead and connect with younger classmates. Mallory, a seventh grade student, shared her favorite part of the Buddy Program: “I love getting to be a role model for younger students. I like it when they ask me questions, and I get to answer them and help them. It makes my day!”

The Buddy Program is a cherished way for students to build lasting connections, grow in leadership and responsibility, and experience the joy of learning and faith together. It is one of the many ways Saint Columbkille fosters a strong and supportive school community where every student can soar.
