At Saint Columbkille Partnership School, we want every child to be known, loved, and supported in their learning. This commitment guided the creation of our Director of Early Childhood and Learning Resources. This role builds on the strength of our Early Childhood Program, while also continuing to provide support for students and families across all grade levels.
Following a thorough search and interview process, we welcomed Ms. Shawna Lymon as the first person to serve in this role. Ms. Lymon most recently served as the Curriculum and Quality Coordinator for five Boston Universal Pre-K sites operated by the YMCA. She also previously served as the Director of Early Childhood at Mission Grammar School. She brings valuable experience supporting young children, partnering with families, and helping teachers grow in their practice.
Reflecting on the experiences that prepared her for this role, Ms. Lymon emphasized the importance of flexibility, listening, and a willingness to learn.
”Every child and family is different, so I think it’s important to approach each situation with an open mind and a willingness to learn. I may not always have the answer right away, but I believe strongly in finding the answer and making sure families and staff feel supported.”
Ms. Lymon will work closely with our early childhood teachers, students, and families to ensure that we continue to strengthen the quality of our program. She will support curriculum and instruction, guide ongoing program development, and help create rich, nurturing learning experiences for our youngest students.
Ms. Lymon also brings a background in special education to Saint Columbkille. As part of the learning resources component of her role, Ms. Lymon will support students and families across all grade levels to identify resources for students who may need additional support. Her focus on the whole child aligns with our school’s commitment to cura personalis, or care for the whole person.
Ms. Lyman explained the perspective she hopes to bring to this work: “As the Learning Resources Coordinator, I believe in recognizing each child’s unique strengths, advocating for their needs, and empowering teachers and families with the resources and support they need. I strongly believe that when you meet a child where they are, you create opportunities to build on their strengths and expand their learning. ”
Already Ms. Lymon is becoming a familiar presence in our classrooms and hallways, getting to know students and working alongside teachers. She has helped strengthen staff communication and safety routines. When asked what she likes most about Saint Columbkille, Ms. Lymon pointed to the people. “From the moment I started, I’ve felt that people genuinely care about the students and about one another. There is a strong feeling of teamwork, and I’ve really appreciated how willing everyone is to support each other.”
We are grateful to have Ms. Lymon as a part of our school community. Her experience, care, and collaborative spirit will continue to make Saint Columbkille a place where every child feels a sense of belonging and has the support they need to learn and grow.
