Christmas at Saint Cols 2020

While this year brings a lot of change to the traditions we know and love, one thing remains - the spirit of Christmas! And in this same spirit, the beloved Christmas at Saint Cols has been reimagined to keep those traditions alive. Those new and old to Christmas at Saint Cols will be able to experience virtual events and opportunities to give.

Teacher Basket Raffles

Each year, teachers create AMAZING baskets for our Christmas at Saint Cols raffle. This year, we are keeping the tradition alive, as a virtual raffle. Beginning Tuesday, December 8, families can use this link to view the baskets and purchase online raffle tickets. Tickets are $2 each. Please share the link with family and friends. Online raffle sales end on Sunday, December 13 at 8 pm. Winners will be announced Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

Christmas at Saint Cols School Day Celebration

The official Christmas at Saint Cols celebration takes place during school hours on Friday, December 11 just for the students. It will be a pajama day, with fun events including letters to and pictures with (cardboard) Santa! There will also be an opportunity for you to continue the “pancake breakfast” tradition by purchasing pancakes for your child’s lunch.

Giving Tree: Donations due by Monday, December 14

We know this year has been particularly difficult and want to be sure all of our Saint Cols families have gifts to open on Christmas morning. In prior years, actual gifts were purchased, donated and wrapped. This year, we are collecting gift cards from Target, Stop & Shop and Amazon to share with families that need a little support this year. Click here for the donation link.

(Virtual) Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree: Friday, December 11

Join Father Fitzgerald and his elves as we light our Christmas tree. Cozy up with your family, make some hot chocolate, and tune in to this Facebook Live Event at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020. The event will be live-streamed on the Saint Columbkille Facebook page at facebook.com/saintcolumbkille

(Virtual) Christmas Cookie Contest

The Cookie Room is a Christmas at Saint Cols favorite! And while we can’t enjoy the cookies, we can still enjoy the baking fun with “The Most Festive Confection Competition”! Each year, families submit cookie creations that are then voted on. This year it will be virtual, but winners will receive the coveted Christmas at Saint Cols wooden spoons and bragging rights for an entire year.

The Elves of Saint Columbkille have been busy baking!

Thank you to all of the Saint Col's bakers and decorators for your wonderful and joy-filled submissions! Imagining you baking and decorating with your families has surely lessened the sting of not being able to celebrate together in person this year. It has been especially heartwarming to know that many of these beautiful and delicious treats were made by our students, some as young as 4 years old. We can see the love you've put into them!

Here is how the voting will work:
**Voting will close at 3 pm on Thursday (12/17).**
1. Click on this link to view all of the submissions. Look at the decorations and read the decadent descriptions!
2. Go to this link to vote for 1 winner for the Decadent Description prize (the one that sounds the most delicious) and 1 winner for Most Festive Confection (the one that is most festive in its decoration and design). Each family member can cast one vote. Father Fitz will choose the winner of the Reason for the Season prize!
4. Tune into the Nativity this Thursday (12/17) to hear the winners announced. (Click here to register for the Nativity).

The holidays are certainly sweeter when we are eating homemade treats with our loved ones, but knowing that our whole Saint Columbkille Partnership School community is sending virtual hugs, cheers, and well-wishes to one another is what makes each of us feel like winners!

Many thanks to Kati Delahanty for keeping this tradition alive!

(Virtual) Nativity Performance

Our 113-year-old tradition continues December 17, 2020 at 6 p.m. The Nativity Performance, formerly called the Cantata, began in 1907. One of our most beautiful traditions has been reimagined, with all of our students involved. In prior years, finding a seat at the church was nearly impossible. This year all of you can have a front row seat. To view the full Nativity Performance, please click here.

Teacher and Staff Gift Fund: Donations due by Friday December 18

During the Christmas season, we know many of you want to honor all of the awesome teachers and staff at Saint Cols who help our children learn and grow each day, especially during this challenging year. The Teacher & Staff Gift Fund is the school's preferred vehicle for giving Christmas gifts to the staff.  It allows the “specials” teachers and support staff to receive Christmas gifts in addition to the homeroom teachers. This gift, as always, is totally optional. Donations are due by Friday, December 18 via this link or via check mailed to the school office at 25 Arlington Street, made out to “Saint Columbkille Partnership School” with “STCPS Teacher Fund” in the memo line, attention Lavinia Ifrim.
