Alumnus Writes Book on School, Church & Neighborhood

Jim Downey, who attended Saint Columbkille School and grew up in Brighton, has written a book about the school and the Allston-Brighton neighborhood called “A Boston Neighborhood Through Time: How Allston/Brighton and Saint Columbkille Church & School Evolved Over Hundreds of Years." The book is a fun trip down memory lane and a wonderful history lesson about Allston/Brighton and Saint Columbkille School and Church.

All profits will be donated to Saint Columbkille Partnership School. The book is available for purchase on Amazon for $14.99: bit.ly/saintcolsbook

The book contains hundreds of years of school and community history with loads of pictures and big print. The book is 51 pages and contains many little-known facts, including:
  • General George Washington shopped for meat in Brighton for his army;
  • Ted Williams lived on Foster Street in Brighton;
  • In 1909, the second graduating class of the school, included William J Daly as one of its graduates, who 37 years later became the Pastor of Saint Columbkille Church.
Thank you, Jim, for putting so much time and effort into such an amazing book!
