On June 7, more than 100 guests gathered for the annual alumni reunion, Come Home to Columb, to celebrate the induction of five distinguished community members into the Saint Columbkille Hall of Honor.
Established in 2024, the Hall of Honor recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Saint Columbkille Partnership School through scholarship, leadership, and service. These honorees serve as an inspiration to current and future generations, promoting a lasting legacy of learning and service to others.
This year’s inductees are:
Sister Joan Duffy, CSJ, Class of 1954- Sister Joan has devoted her life to faith, education, and service. From teaching math and physics at Regis College to leading the Sisters of Saint Joseph as President and Congregational Leader, her legacy reflects a deep commitment to Catholic education and community leadership.
James “Jimmy” Smith, Class of 1981- Jimmy embodied the spirit of Saint Columbkille through a life dedicated to mentorship, service, and youth athletics—founding teams, leading CYO, and creating opportunities for all children, regardless of financial means. A former teacher at Saint Cols, probation officer, and youth advocate, Jimmy’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched as a leader, mentor, and friend.
Jean O’Connor, Class of 1975 – Elementary, for over 40 years, Jean O’Connor has been a beloved first-grade teacher at Saint Columbkille, teaching in the very classroom where she was once a student. Known for her warmth, high standards, and leadership of programs beyond the school day, she has made a lasting impact on generations of students, families, and fellow educators.
Mary E. Walsh, Ph.D., Class of 1959 – Grade 8: 1955, Dr. Mary E. Walsh, a nationally recognized education leader and researcher, is the founder of City Connects and Director of the Center for Thriving Children at Boston College. Her work has supported over 50,000 students and helped guide Saint Columbkille’s transition to a partnership school, securing its mission for the future.
Robert L. and Judith T. Winston – Friends of Saint Columbkille, Robert and Judith Winston have shaped the future of Saint Columbkille through their early philanthropic leadership, including the founding gift to launch the school’s endowment with Boston College. Their continued generosity, advocacy, and community involvement have expanded student opportunities and strengthened the school’s foundation for years to come.
Despite the rain, alumni and friends came together indoors in the Early Childhood corridor for an evening of food, music, and connection. The intimate setting offered graduates from across the decades a meaningful chance to reconnect and reminisce.
The Class of 1975 marked its 50th reunion, and several inductees gave remarks—while others were honored posthumously or by loved ones in their absence.
Saturday’s celebration was a powerful tribute to Saint Columbkille’s 123-year history and the many people who have helped shape its story. As Head of School Jen Kowieski shared, "Come Home to Columb was a beautiful reminder that while decades may pass, the bonds formed at Saint Columbkille remain unshakable. Our alumni are living proof of the strength, joy, and purpose that continue to define this extraordinary community."
Congratulations to this year’s Hall of Honor inductees and to the Class of 1975! We look forward to welcoming alumni back again next year for another joyful Come Home to Columb reunion.
