On Monday, August 25, new and returning faculty and staff gathered for orientation to launch the 2025–26 school year.
The day began with Mass at Saint Columbkille Parish, celebrated by Father Richard Fitzgerald, who shared a thoughtful homily on beginning the year with faith and guiding students toward God in every subject, not just Religion class.
Following Mass, faculty participated in professional development sessions that included a review of the school’s mission statement, updates on social-emotional learning programs, important technology updates, and more. New faculty members also completed a two-day orientation and will continue to receive support through a mentoring program.
Over the summer, the school made several facility and curriculum updates. The boys’ bathroom on the second floor was fully renovated, new flooring was installed in the front half of the cafeteria, and several classrooms were freshly painted. In addition, a new phone system is being installed to improve communication across the building.
Students will also benefit from a new science curriculum in grades 1–8, aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, which emphasizes hands-on learning and discovery in the classroom.
Grades K2 through 8 had their first day of classes on Thursday, August 28, beginning with a prayer service on the field. As he does each year, Father Fitzgerald reminded the community, “Today is the first day of school, but before you know it, it will be the last day of school!”
After the Labor Day weekend, students in 2.9 through K1 joined the first day of school on Tuesday, September 2. That same day, clubs and athletics kicked off for the fall trimester. With more than 20 options, students can participate in programs such as Cross Country, Chess Club, STEM for All, Theater Club, and Archery.
Assistant Head of School Greg Salvucci shared, “I’m so excited to be back together with our Saint Cols students, families, and staff for another great school year full of learning, fun, and growth!”
This fall, Saint Columbkille is proud to welcome nearly 90 new students and their families. With over 25 languages spoken in the community, students have the opportunity to learn from one another and thrive in a diverse, inclusive environment.
It has been a strong start to the year, and we look forward to all that’s ahead.
